(10-18-2009) Before we get to the unveiling of the Republican Wall of Shame it is important to mention the events leading up to it and why it was created.
The Suffolk County Republican Party recently elected John Jay LaValle as the new Chairmen of the Suffolk County Republican Committee. That is a very good thing because the outgoing Suffolk GOP Chairman Harry Withers was a cross endorsing Republicrat.
So like any other other interested registered Republican I went to the Suffolk GOP website to check out the news and announcements. While there, I quickly noticed Join the Republican Revolution.
And I thought to myself, Join the Republican Revolution? Oh yes, there is a revolution. And yes it has already started. But the revolution was not started by Republicans.
The revolution was started by local grass roots groups that organized, planned, and implemented passionate, successful, and patriotic tea parties. These tea parties symbolized and re-enacted a pivotal chapter in American history; the birth of our nation, which was founded on the principals of liberty and the disdain of big government. The spirited people that have joined these tea parties are all true believers in these founding American principals. They started the revolution.
And these grass roots groups, or Tea Partier’s, represent everyday people from every walk of life. Most of these people have never taken part in political activism before. This activism is fueled by disgust, frustration and anger with the elected leaders from both sides of the political aisle.
Early on local Republican Committees dismissed these tea partier’s as kooks and radicals.
But it was only a matter of time before national GOP organizations realized that most of these Tea Partier’s were disenfranchised Republicans and they were the key to rebuilding the party. And the key to recapturing the long lost Republican message.
Out in Riverhead, one grass roots organization is helping the Riverhead GOP rebuild. The Suffolk 9-12 group is volunteering for various town campaigns. Why? Because Riverhead has candidates that are true Republicans. Candidates that are private citizens with successful business credentials. Candidates that believe in limited government. Candidates that are not political insiders. Candidates that believe government is, always has been, and always will be the problem.
But I’m not writing to you about the successful teamwork and partnership between the Riverhead GOP and the Suffolk 9-12 Group. A partnership I might add that’s striving to reach common goals.
I’m writing to warn the Suffolk County Republican Committee that their credibility is being called into question.
While it is understandable that the new Chairman is just getting started in his new position as leader of all Suffolk County Republicans. He needs to come out and make a very strong statement regarding an urgent matter.
There can be no more Republicans cross endorsing any Democrats!
If Mr. LaValle chooses not to, all the upcoming elections will be thrown into jeopardy. And the only revolution will be a revolution within the ranks of the Republican Party.
By not denouncing the cross endorsements of Democrats by Republicans, it will severely damage the Republican cause and undermine all efforts to build coalitions with these various grass roots organizations. It is important for Mr. LaValle to realize that these spirited activists, these very coalitions, represent that last great hope for Republicans, and for all of Long Island.
Having said all that, I would now like to turn your attention to the Islip Town campaign.
The following is taken from Newsday:
(October 15, 2009) Islip: Democrat Morgo, board candidate, touts GOP backers
Jim Morgo, Democratic County Executive Steve Levy’s former chief deputy, who is running for Islip Town council, today trotted out some well-known local Republicans, including former Suffolk County Executive Robert Gaffney (in file photo), former Islip Town Councilman Brian Ferruggiari and Bay Shore attorney Lisa Pace, of the prominent Republican West Islip family.
The attendees — members of “Republicans for Jim Morgo” — endorsed Morgo as well as his running mate, incumbent Councilman Christopher Bodkin, who switched to blue in 2007 after serving as a Republican for 14 years.
Rounding out the Republicans were Bob McMillan, the former US Senate candidate, and founder of the Long Island Housing Partnership, and Kathy Brand, executive director of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation — whose younger sister, a single mother, was selected by lottery to purchase an affordable townhouse through a Long Island Housing Partnership program.
Morgo was the first president and CEO of the housing partnership.
Also from Newsday:
(October 15, 2009) Cross-party, cross-border: Sign comes down in Suffolk
A campaign sign for James Morgo and Chris Bodkin, Democrats running for Islip town board, came down last week — in Brookhaven.
It was on private property, on the well-trafficked corner of Nicolls Road and Montauk Highway — belonging to Republican Brookhaven Councilman Tim Mazzei, a longtime friend of Morgo’s who was a student when Morgo taught high school English in Bayport.
Seems the sign was removed after GOP objections reached Mazzei. Frank Tantone, the new Islip Republican leader, said he called Jesse Garcia, Brookhaven GOP chairman, after hearing it was posted there.
“I understand, we all have friendships that cross party lines,” Tantone said today. “But it’s inappropriate for a councilman in one town” to be part of a campaign in another town for the opposite party, he said.
UPDATE: Mazzei was reluctant to remove the sign based solely on these objections — but finally did so after Morgo called him and said, “If it’s giving you a hard time, just take it down.”
It is now important to note that this cross endorsement is not just like any other cross endorsement.
Jim Morgo is no ordinary Democrat. Jim Morgo has a very long and distinguished career in politics. And Jim Morgo is a self proclaimed proud liberal.

Jim Morgo - The Liberal Lion of Long Island
Jim Morgo’s political career started in 1984 as a Democratic Suffolk County Legislator. By 1988, he left political office for a 17 year career as the First President and CEO of the Long Island Housing Partnership, the region’s preeminent facilitator of socialized housing projects. After that reign, he joined Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy’s administration and held various key economic posts, culminating with Chief Deputy County Executive of Suffolk County.
After 26 years of an illustrious democratic political career, 17 of which being a socialized housing czar, Mr. Morgo has amassed a wealth of insiders, ties, and connections to everything that’s wrong with Long Island today.
Mr. Morgo is a champion in democrat circles.
Mr. Morgo is the Liberal Lion of Long Island.
Which make his cross endorsement the most damaging blow to the credibility of the whole Suffolk County Republican Party.
Not to mention the damage to the Islip Republican Committee and their candidates; incumbent Councilman Steven Flotteron and political newcomer Trish Bergin.
I therefore urge all Republican, Conservative, and Libertarian minded people of Suffolk County to do the following:
1. Contact Suffolk County Republican Chairman John Jay LaValle and urge him to denounce these cross endorsements. Ask him also to withdraw the Republican registrations of all endorsers.
Phone: (631) 580-1482
office@suffolkrepublicans.com
2. Contact Brookhaven Town Councilman Tim Mazzei and express your outrage.
Phone (631) 451-6645
Fax (631) 451-6447

3. Contact Islip Town Republican Chairman Frank A. Tantone, Councilman Steven Flotteron, and Candidate Trish Bergen and offer your enormous overwhelming support to defeat the Liberal Lion of Long Island and his cross endorsing insider agents. But you must hurry. There are only around 3 weeks left until the election.
