STATEMENT FROM CHRIS COX ON TODAY’S UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS
Smithtown, NY – Chris Cox (R), candidate for Congress in New York’s First Congressional District, issued the following statement:
“Today’s unemployment numbers are encouraging news for our economy, but there is still much work that has to be done in Washington so that jobs are gained, not lost. Today’s estimate of a loss of 20,000 jobs is not something to celebrate, but something to spur action. The people of Suffolk County need jobs, they need to feel secure in their workplaces. For some time, we have faced a difficult economic climate that will not be fixed by over regulating our businesses and overtaxing our working men and women. On the heels of President Obama’s massive Federal budget, it is obvious that Washington is not in tune with Americans across the country who are tightening their belts. We need leaders in Congress who will demand accountability and work to produce the one thing Americans desperately need most – jobs in the United States, not overseas.”
TODAYS CARTOONS

The slightly improved unemployment rate is deceptive because it doesn’t account for people who, discouraged after many months of seeking meaningful employment, have simply given up the search. The truth is, had the incumbent party has done the exact opposite of what is needed to spur on the free sector of economy to create jobs. Taking money from profitable companies and successful individuals in order to give that money to unprofitable, weak companies is a recipe for negative growth and that’s precisely the formula being followed by our very own Pelosi Puppets. The mantra that they and the media repeat about spending money to create “green” jobs gives the false impressions that there is such a thing as a “green” job to reduce carbon and that the government can pay salaries indefinitely. Carbon is not a pollutant, it’s plant food!
Given the right set of numbers, I’ll prove to you that the earth is flat and the center of the universe.
I like what I know of Mr. Cox, and speaking with him was informative – hate to see him pushing something I consider to be party line BS this way.
Now this gives me an opportunity to ask another question – the release mentions jobs here in the United States – not overseas.
Question to all candidates for ALL office:
What do you plan to do to bring back OUR manufacturing base. If We are not self sufficiant, then We are dependant. -thanks
I agree Washington is not in tune with the American public, but neither is Mr. Cox. How can he be encouraged by this jobs report. With so many under employed and those who have stopped looking for work, the situation is far from encouraging. I’m willing to say the millions who have lost their jobs are not encouraged at all. Our manufacturing base is nearly none existent which is both an economic and national security problem. This is compounded by our huge historic national deficit. It will take more than a vague statement to solve our problems.
TJ, there are at least three things to do to attract manufacturing to the USA. All three are intended to make it more profitable for the companies involved, not punitive. First, special tax incentives to build state of the art plants. Second, spur the development of fission and fusion to provide the cheapest electricity in the world. Three, stop taking money from profitable companies and giving it to unprofitable ones to favor one type of industry over another, which forces the profitable ones to leave when they have the chance.
Today’s umemployment numbers are in no way a reflection of the “increased” jobs. They are for the most part the temporary Census positions.
